There are a huge amount of benefits to yoga for both you and your baby. Here’s just a few of them to give you an idea…
Bonding: there’s lots of touch, lots of eye contact, one to one time, no distractions. Forming a positive happy relationship with secure attachments, is so important for your baby’s development.
Mental health: Let’s start as we mean to go on and support our babies physical and mental wellbeing. Setting these foundations early is key. There been a huge rise in the amount of children with mental ill health, conditions such as anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, agoraphobia, eating disorders and self harm. If children are armed with the tools and self care measures on how to stay calm and look after themselves, then we may be able to prevent some of this mental ill health to begin with. Prevention is definitely better than cure!
Relax: It’s relaxing for the adult as well as the baby, lowering stress, anxiety and depression and providing a sense of calm and wellbeing.
Empowerment: It can help the parent to feel confident and capable working with their baby, empowering them through their parenting journey.
Development: It can help to develop a babies gross and fine motor skills.
Environment: it’s a non-judgemental and supportive environment, where no topic is off the agenda. You can ask anything, share as much or as little as you like and feel safe and secure.
Make friends: It’s a great place to meet other parents and babies of a similar age. Having a like minded peer support network around you is essential for new parents.
Safety: It’s taught by a qualified instructor, so it’s very safe for everyone. I have various certificates and qualifications. You can find a list of these on my website https://breathebirthyoga.co.uk/about-kirstie/
Tummies: Yoga can help to ease digestive issues in babies, such as colic, constipation, wind.
Sleep: It can help you find that ever elusive sleep that you’ve been craving. Babies tend to have a much longer and better sleep after a yoga class.
Yoga: It can help the parent ease back into regular yoga practice. It’s not advisable to start anything to strenuous too early and this could be a good way to begin.
Learn: You will learn songs, nursery rhymes and tips and tricks to try at home.
Fitness: It’s a great foundation for getting back to fitness in general, but slowly and safely.
Pelvic floor: This benefit is for you, rather than your baby. We will work on your pelvic floor, strengthening and talking about self help as we go through your postnatal period.
All inclusive: Everyone’s welcome as long as you are generally at least 6 weeks postnatal or 8/10 weeks following a caesarean birth. Each persons birth will have been different, so each case is looked at on an individual basis.
